Liis Lemsalu “Silmad lahti” music video

At a time when music video production is becoming increasingly rare, it is particularly important to create visuals that are not merely an illustration of the song, but expand its meaning. The music video is a classic format that allows a song to take on an additional emotional and narrative dimension—to convey what music alone cannot.

“Silmad Lahti” was created in close collaboration with Liis Lemsalu. At the heart of the concept was a person’s inner journey. A journey from a calm, safe environment through a maximalist inner world to the rediscovery of clarity and balance.

Concept

The video was divided into two worlds: a familiar, realistic present and an abstract fantasy space that reflects thoughts and memories. The motif of moving became the central metaphor of the story. Unpacking boxes signified not only a physical move but also an internal rearrangement—a re-examination of past experiences, emotions, and memories.

A fragmented puzzle emerged as a recurring symbol, with its differently colored pieces representing experiences from the past. The more pieces that fit together, the clearer both the space and Liis’s own inner state became.

In abstract scenes, Liis wandered through her own mental landscape—the world became maximalist, layered, and visually intense. Shapes, reflections, and symbols created an illusory environment where 2+2 might not equal 4. It was a space where doubt and growth coexist.

Eventually, the worlds merge. The puzzle comes together. The space breathes again. The eyes are open.

Visual Execution

Visually, the video shifted from minimalist, warm realism to a dynamic and surreal aesthetic.

We used a combination of practical effects and AI-assisted visual manipulations, which allowed us to:

alter the structure and forms of the environment cost-effectively
create abstract worlds without massive sets
influence the dynamics of space in post-production
AI was not an end in itself, but a tool. A way to visually “bring to life” the inner world and heighten the contrast between reality and fantasy.

Result

“Silmad Lahti” is not just an illustration for a song, but a visual narrative of self-discovery. The video creates a space where the viewer can identify with the process of inner change—chaos, maximalism, and ultimately clarity. This project demonstrates how a creative concept, close collaboration with the artist, and a smart technological approach make it possible to create a strong visual identity even in an era where music videos are no longer a given.
